HERB SAFETY If you come in for a treatment, whether its for stress, fibromyalgia or tennis elbow, I will offer you the option of the perfect herbal prescription for what ails you. I also recommend a variety of Western herbs that will support you in your health. I choose formulas from companies with stringent manufacturing, testing and quality assurance procedures to ensure that you receive the highest quality product prepared with the cleanest herbs. The herbs are tested for heavy metals, pesticides and other toxins to ensure that they are safe for your consumption.
Following is a list of the common companies I use for herbal formulas. If you would like to learn more about their processing standards and safety, you can click on them and will be directed to more information about their company's standards:
HOW THE HERBS ARE OFFERED Herbs come in either tablets, tinctures or granules. The granules are created from a complex process of cooking and concentrating the herbs into a powder. You will measure a small amount of the granule powder, and add 4 - 8 ounces of warm water (your discretion!) to create a tea that you drink. To learn more about the granule making process, visit this KPC Herbs page and it will tell you in detail.
TIPS ON USING HERBAL FORMULAS It is best to take herbs on an empty stomach between meals because you will be able to assimilate more of the medicinal constituents, as absorption will be more direct. Taking the herbs at the same time as eating may reduce your stomach and intestines from absorbing effectively. The optimum way to consume the herbs is to take them two hours away from food. At a minimum, 20-30 minutes before meals and at least an hour after eating. However, if you forget, it's always better to take your herbs with meals than to not take them at all! Of course, every case is specific and if there are different needs for you and your formula, we will discuss this during your appointment.
